HUE

Represents the colour itself and is typically measured in degrees (0° to 360°) on a colour wheel.
For example:

  • 0° (or 360°) is red
  • 120° is green
  • 240° is blue

Saturation

Indicates the intensity or purity of the colour. It is measured as a percentage (0% to 100%):

  • 0% saturation means the colour is grey (no colour)
  • 100% saturation means the colour is pure and vibrant

Lightness

Refers to the brightness of the colour, also measured as a percentage (0% to 100%):

  • 0% lightness results in black
  • 100% lightness results in white
  • 50% lightness provides the pure colour at its full saturation
